A Few Festival Updates

Didnt have much to talk about today;however, there is quite a few festival line ups coming out and I though that might be something to look at. First, since everybody seems to be so excited about it, I thought I’d take a look at its line up. Waka is a festival out of Ozark, Arkansas in the Ozark Mountains. Its a great time in a beautiful place. In my opinion, it has a great line-up this year including Yonder Mountain String Band, STS9, Widespread Panic, Umphreys McGee, and Nashville bands Moon Taxi and Cherub. Another I thought I’d take a quick look at is The Governors Ball out of NYC (though I have no first hand experience of the festy) because its got a pretty damn good line up. Included amongst the multiple other acts are The Avett Brothers, Nas, Kanye, Thievery Corporation, Animal Collective, and Gary Clarke. Add that to the ambiance added by the concrete Jungle and I’d imagine you have a hell of a time.

Atoms For Peace

Dont know if you guys have checked out Atoms For Peace, but if you haven’t, you should start now. It is the bastard child of Radio Head front man Thom York and Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea (both geniuses in their own right). The project doesn’t fall to far from Radio Head’s usual psychedelic trip into the dark side of counter culture. Whats even more exciting is a little bird told me that this band might just show up on a lot of the festival line ups coming out soon across the country.   So be sure to check out some of the videos below and become more familiar with this power band before the summer comes round!

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years all! In 2013 I am determined to give a little bit more and make the best of what I have! In that, I’m going to try to write on here more, even if its just a quick post. The 29th and 30th I went to the Tabernacle in Atl and saw Umphreys McGee. They were great the 29th but the tore the roof off on the 30th. They bumped the openers up so that they could play a longer set and covered Cocaine (Eric Clapton), Hey Hey What Can I Do? (Zeppelin), and Shine On (Floyd). New Neil Young

While I’m still looking for the topic of my next write up about an up and coming msucian/artist, I thought I would trun you guys onto another new album from an artist I most of you know (if you don’t, feel ashamed), Neil Young. Psychedelic Pill is the 35^th studio album from Young (pretty amazing) and he recorded with his current band Crazy Horse. The album features 9 songs that take you back into Neil’s heyday and has been received very well by Rolling stone and the Billboard Top 200. Douglas Heselgrave, writing for Paste Magazine, said: “Psychedelic Pill may be the best album Neil Young has ever done with Crazy Horse. It’ll take years to figure out.” But don’t take my (and Doug’s) word for it, as always you should check the album out yourself. Check out the track/review below and download it soon!

New Red Hot Song

I usually prefer to do quick write ups about artists and musicians that I know personally; however, as I am currently searching for a new person to write about, I thought I should take the opportunity to promote some new RHCP songs! The songs are part of a singles series that Red Hot has currently working on. The 2 new songs are called Hometown Gypsy and The Sunset Sleeps. It seems like lately a lot of people of been down on Red Hot because their sound hasn’t evolved much from Stadium Arcadium. I really like both of these songs and think there is hints at a new tone coming from the band. I think both have a southern undertone that isn’t present in a ton of their old work. As always, you should definitely check both songs out for yourself. Please check them out and let me know your thoughts!

Mallory Cowan

For those of you who may have noticed, it’s been a long while since my last post. I’ve been quite busy with things other than music and art (real estate classes, I try to wear many hats) and the pursuit of finding more of both. Luckily, I have come back ready with somebody new to write about. Mallory Cowan is an acquaintance of mine, a good friend or Tory Pittarelli (the topic of one of my earlier posts) and one of many talented artists living in Knoxville, TN close to the campus the University of Tennessee. From the art I have seen, Mallory possesses a unique style comprised of abstract colorings pulled together to form a central theme (adding some method to the madness). She also occasionally seems to pull the chaos together even further to create characters/still life while sticking with her abstract undertones. Cherub

It seems to me there is a new kind of band emerging. Bands that take a hold of the possibilities new music technology is bringing and turn it into something that takes a hold of you. Cherub is a band out of Nashville, whose music is best described as electronic dance melodies with vocals. Though the band is relatively fresh to the scene their debut EP Man Of The House is if nothing else very well produced and gaining them rapid popularity.  Give their album one listen and its not hard to see how they have made a habit of producing catchy songs that get your dance bones moving.
