Tory Pittarelli

As I stated before, I’m not only looking to discuss some of the musicians from my area but also some of the talented artists from my side of town. If any of you have recently attended an electronic or jam band show you may have noticed any number of gifted live painters, doing their thing to the beat, allowing the music to flow seamlessly through them and onto their canvases. It was at one of these shows that I ran into a girl I had known for years, Tory Pittarelli, effortlessly displaying her talents in what seemed to me at the time the most unusual of settings. Like the other people  I have recently listed, Tory personifies the talent that pours out of Nashville,TN, and is seemingly hiding behind every corner. Tory lives now in Knoxville,TN, and paints (performs?) at many of the local shows. Please make yourself more familiar with Tory’s art and her developing portfolio at http://toryfolio.carbonmade.com/ and by checking out some of the pictures below!

The Blue Heavy

The Blues Heavy is a band comprised of members from all over the state of Tennessee and featuring to front men I have had the pleasure of knowing for a few years, Ben Gaines and Jac Conley. The band semi-recently recorded their ep in Memphis, TN. A very appropriate setting considering the sound the band produces that I think can best be described as grunge punk blues. As great as the sound is on the album, the true character of this band is captured live where you can truly appreciate the Tennessee grown passion peppered throughout their vocals and guitar riffs. Please make yourself more familiar with this band my visiting http://www.facebook.com/TheBlueHeavy and http://www.reverbnation.com/theblueheavy and by checking out a quick clip of a live performance below today!

Charlie

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Charlie Whitten is a 23 year old musician from North Carolina who currently resides in Nashville, TN. He recently released his first album Dreaming, an impressive 7 track collection of dream state folk that might rock you to sleep if each vocal and guitar note didn’t keep you hanging on waiting for the next. I met Charlie through a very close friend and ever since I have been consistently impressed by his musical prowess at every turn. Though he might be from North Carolina, he truly personifies what it is to be a Nashvillian, proving that around these parts you don’t have to go far to trip over some real talent. I recently had a conversation about how I didn’t think, for whatever reason, that today’s musicians could really capture that classic folk rock sound. Stumbling across people like Charlie and albums like Dreaming may just prove me wrong. Please check out the album today at http://hearcharlie.bandcamp.com/ or just take a few minutes and check out the album’s title song below.

The Good Guys

Though they recently broke up, while The Good Guys were together they managed to play some great shows and both of their front men, Luke Schuyler and Charlie Whitten, are both still writing and playing music individually. This 4 piece band from Nashville’s Belmont University would best be described as harmonic folk rock, both instrumentally and vocally. Both times I saw them play they struck me as falling somewhere between My Morning Jacket and Simon and Garfunkle, casting a harmonic dream state over the crowd in each song. Their time together was short; however, it was a great start to each of the young individual musician’s careers. Please check out the song below from one of their performances in Nashville, TN, and be on the look out for more great art from each of these singer song writers.

Deep Machine

The second band I would like to speak on is a band out of Murfreesboro, TN, called Deep Machine. This band is extremely talented and is led by front man/lead guitarist Brennan Walsh, who also attended Franklin High School in Franklin, TN. Deep Machine is more than capable on all fronts featuring a lead guitarist, bassist, key boards, and of course a drummer. However, they produce a sound that would suggest they are a bigger band than they truly are. I think their music would best be described as instrumental (again, I’m not a music critic) progressive/psychedelic semi-electronic rock, each song taking the listener on a trip through different keys and rhythms all the while staying true to each songs theme. You might mistake this band for a jam band if it wasn’t for the precision and masterful blend achieved throughout. I truly believe this band has enough talent and overall style to take them as far as they chose to go. But please, be your own judge. You can find their music on www.myspace.com/deepmachinemusic and of course on Youtube. Please check out the track below and familiarize yourself more with this awesomely talented band today.

Machines Are People Too

The first band I would like to discuss includes a high school buddy of mine from Franklin, TN name Brian Sylvester. They are Machines Are People Too and they are based out of the beautiful city of Chattanooga,TN. The band is a what I would consider (definitely not a music critic) an interesting mix of electronica meets live music performed in the arena of dance music. Brian’s great vocals are accompanied mostly by synthesizers and kea boards as well as a pulse generated by the more than capable drum stylings of Ivan Garcia.  I have seen this band grow steadily since their formation in 2009 and they have recently played at both the Hand Out and Bonnaroo music festivals. Machines Are People Too seems to truly be hitting their stride and beginning to produce music that is unique and if nothing else catchy. Get more familiar with them today at http://www.myspace.com/machinesarepeopletoo, http://www.facebook.com/MachinesArePeopleToo, http://soundcloud.com/machinesarepeopletoo, and on YouTube including the video below:

A New Direction

It’s been a long time since my last post mostly because of a lack of interesting things to talk about. My greatest interests in this blog are to A) connect with other musicians across the world and B) promote my e-commerce web site IStillGotMyGuitar.com. In my pasts posts it seems that though I tried, I failed to really come up with any content that I even thought might peak any readers interest. In the past few weeks (months) I have tried to come up with some ideas as to subject matter that would both interest me and other musicians so it would be easier to write and therefore more interesting to read. Finally the idea hit me: I would blog about musicians and artists that I know and help them promote their own music. How ironic that it took me so long to realize that my subject matter could be found in the talent that is all around me. Anyway, my next posts will be all about musicians or artists I know that are just trying to stock creation with a few more beautiful things as well as a little information on things you can do to support them.
